The project will distribute nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, in gift packages to 25 actors, actresses and directors nominated for roles in featured films.
According to Nomine, a project created in partnership with online platforms Rarible, Metaversal and AdVenture Media. 25 of over 110 Oscar nominations in 2021 will receive three non-exchangeable tokens or NFTs in unofficial gift bags. These will be awarded to Hollywood Insiders nominated in the main categories.
All digital creations by artists John Norlander, Shailene Wallace, Rocco DiSpirito and others will be minted with the names of the nominees in their respective categories. The winner in each category will receive an additional NFT sold at the Rarible auction. As planned by the organizers, a large percentage if not all of the takings will go to charity of their choice. Since NFTs do not exist in the physical world, the project will add a ticket to each bag, allowing nominees to receive their gift through the Portis wallet.
The yield from this NFT auction will also benefit the Colon Cancer Foundation, as one of the NFTs is dedicated to the role of King T’Challa in the 2018 film Black Panther, actor Chadwick Boseman, who unfortunately passed away in the late summer of 2020 from colon cancer.
Some experts believe that the Hollywood film industry should move to blockchain, which will allow new creators to bypass the traditional path for projects by decentralizing power in space. As the space gains popularity, a number of film and television projects related to the cryptocurrency industry have and are emerging, including a 10-episode crypto-comedy series expected to begin filming later this year.
